7.13.19 Nutmeg Miata Lime Rock Park Event
The Nutmeg Miata Club in Connecticut annual hosts their Auto Cross event at Lime Rock Park. The event is for members on a first come first serve basis. If you are not a member, you can still be invited, if you sign up early. I got a last minute invite from Dave McCaughan since a few members had cancelled. It was a no brainer and would be the first time I actually attend a driving event.
What makes this event great is that it is 40 cars max. You get a lot of runs and three laps for each turn you have. It is for all driving levels. Instructors were present and you were able to get driving and setting feedback from Quinn Kizis of The Slip Angle and Robert Slonaker of Slip Angle Consulting.
It was a great event and I hope to be there again next year. Special thanks to Nutmeg Miata, Joe Wall, Dave McCaughan, Quinn Kizis, Robert Slonaker, members of The Slip Angle and every Miata owner that came out.
The day started at 8:30 a.m. At around 9:30 a.m., we had the drivers meeting to go over the track and a run down of the day. The course was closed into two sections and the groups were split up with beginners and drivers with experience. You get three laps in each course. Eventually once both groups did both courses, the timed event started. After lunch, the winners were announced for the fastest time for the following models NA, NB, and NC. The overall fastest time was from the Silver NB with a V6 swap. The lap times are posted in the pictures section. After the trophies were handed it out it was about 2-3 p.m. in the afternoon. They combined the course into one. If you stuck around, you were able to just drive as much as you want before the event ended.
Additional Information on the pictures.:
A. The lone Porsche 911 in the event has a special story. The owner has been a Miata enthusiast for 19 years and the Porsche they were driving was passed down to him from his father.
B. The Black NA with Alaska plates is originally a car from the Left Coast. It spent all its life in Sacramento then moved to Alaska. Finally the car is with the current owner here in the East Coast.
C. I got to meet and talk to Quinn from The Slip Angle. I originally know him from Garage Quinn Motors. I personally am a fan of his NA and NB build. If you have not gotten a chance, please check them out at his YouTube Channel.
