7.7.19 7s Day NYC
7’s day is a global celebration of rotary cars from Mazda, primarily the RX7, hence the celebration taking place on 7.7 annually. The concept to bring the event to NYC was created by PRIME NYC and Ted of Regiment Zero.
I know it is very difficult to forget the event since it is an easy date to remember. It was a long holiday weekend for many stateside. I kept to myself the whole weekend and used the time with just absorbing knowledge.
I get a text from my friend, Caleb of Miatas of Brooklyn at around 6:45 p.m., and it was a picture of a bunch of RX-7s lined up by Canal street. I asked him what the event was for only to slowly realize that the day is 7.7. He ask me how long it would take me to get there? I could not turn the invite down and got myself out of the house and drove immediately down town.
The back story to how Caleb got an invite was that he was in a bookstore. A random kid saw his ND Miata and asked him, “Hey I saw your RX-7. Why are you not going to the meet?”. The details were exchanged and Caleb befriended these great group of men that let him tag along. I was informally invited to the event but I still got a warm greeting and shown love.
I was able to attend the meet, however due to traffic, I caught the tail end of the meeting. I was still able to make the best out of it. I got to witness and hear that beautiful idle that Wankel engines make which is a brap, brap, brap, brap.
