My Brief Thoughts On COVID-19
I wanted to wait at least a few weeks to give my thoughts on the virus COVID-19 that has changed our lives forever in this modern era. As of today on March 30th at 9:54 a.m. Eastern Time The WHO reports that there are 638,146 confirmed cases globally, 30,039 deaths, and 202 countries, areas or territories with cases. The United States leads all nations with 103,321 cases.
We are more divided than ever with what we believe are our own thoughts when there is so much misinformation and agendas that politicians and the media feed into the public that people start to behave just like the President of the United States with no accountability. Take for instance when the W.H.O. Director, General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus gave a name of the virus on 2.11.20 he warned that ““Having a name matters to prevent the use of other names that can be inaccurate or stigmatizing,” Tedros told reporters. “It also gives us a standard format to use for any future coronavirus outbreak.” In a press conference on 3.19.20 by Mike Ryan, Executive Director of WHO’s Emergencies Program, also warned the public to be careful with the language they use when referring to the virus. ““Viruses know no borders and they don’t care about your ethnicity, the color of your skin or how much money you have in the bank,” Instead Trump saw this as an opportunity to alleviate his deficiencies as a leader by putting blame on the Chinese and making this about something his followers can vent their frustrations on rather than his lack of leadership skills. Instead of unifying and comforting the population, this was a perfect opportunity to conquer and divide.
There have been various racially motivated attacks done to people of Asian descent as a result. Since the start of the AAPI on March 18th, there have been 650 reported attacks on Asians in the USA alone. I urge people to not fall for smoking mirrors and to think for yourself and always question why. You can refer to the videos below dated with Trump downplaying the virus in the specific dates his press conferences were held. He even went as far as having cease-and-desist letters to stations that promoted the videos and lying once again to the American public that the videos are “patently false, misleading, and deceptive.” But these are the same guidelines you adhere to when spreading your propaganda.
